Sexually transmitted infections and reproductive tract infections are important public health problems in the State. The prevention and management of STI/RTI is a well recognized cost effective strategy for controlling the spread of HIV/AIDS in the state as well as to reduce the reproductive morbidity among sexually active population. Individuals with STI/RTI have a chance of acquiring and transmitting HIV by 5 to 10 times. To treat sexually transmitted infections, there are 53 DSRCs (Designated STI/RTI Clinics) established of which 51 are functioning under Maharashtra SACS in 34 Districts (Excluding Mumbai & Mumbai Suburban). Through these DSRCs , Sexually Transmitted Infections are diagnosed, treated & patients are counseled & provided drugs free of cost. Therefore prevalence of HIV/AIDs is decrease and Sexual and Reproductive Health of adolescent and adults are maintained.
