Maharashtra State AIDS
Control Society
Maharashtra State AIDS Control Organization (excluding Mumbai and Mumbai suburbs) has been functioning since 1999 in 34 districts of the state for HIV/AIDS prevention. As there is currently no drug or vaccine available to completely overcome AIDS, the only solution currently available is to prevent the disease. National AIDS Control Program sponsored by the central government has been implemented in India since 1992 to control this disease. Maharashtra State AIDS Control Institute was established in July 1998 to effectively implement the AIDS control program in the state. Mass dissemination of proper information among the people as well as implementation of public awareness program started.
