Prevention Division:

Prevention Division projects are being implemented through NGOs under Maharashtra State AIDS Control Society (MSACS).

• The projects are being implemented for high risk groups [Female Sex workers (FSW), Men Having Sex with Men (MSM), Transgender (TG), Injecting Drug Users (IDU)] and for bridge population (Migrants &Long Distance Truckers)
• The aim is to reduce HIV and STI prevalence among these groups and empower the community for the sustainability of the projects. They are also being mentored to form Community Based Organizations (CBOs) run by the community for their own community.

The services offered to High Risk Groups are as follows:

• Behavior Change Communication (BCC) and counseling for HIV and STI prevention.
• Regular STI screening every quarter for each HRG and STI treatment if diagnosed.
• HIV and Syphilis testing twice in a year for each HRG.
• Referral services (e.g. Anti-Retroviral Therapy, STI Prevention & TB treatment, and other necessary services) 
• Networking with various other organizations for social benefit schemes.
• Condom promotion – For FSW (Female Sex Worker) and MSM/TG (Male having Sex with Male) projects strategy of free distribution is used but Social marketing is also promoted. For bridge population the strategy of Social Marketing is adopted.
